Saints Nation Podcast: Mini Camp is Worthless and Saints Bizarro Mt. Rushmore
Andrew Juge and Kevin Held join Ralph to discuss why mini camp is totally useless as far as figuring out anything for the upcoming season. Ralph has a pretty solid theory on why Terron Armstead will start at tackle. Andrew explains why the Saints will need at least one of their young receivers to step up if the offense is to remain elite. Is the pass rush really any better? Andrew thinks Rob Ryan will throw the kitchen sink at teams in the preseason.
The boys then start to assemble the Saints Bizarro Mt. Rushmore and wrap up going through another bracket of Kevin 'Iron Eagle' Held's wrestling intro music.

The first season of David Hawthorne's tenure with the Saints was about as close to a disaster as one could imagine. Performance wise, it was in keeping with some of the medium profile veteran linebacker pick ups of the past like Bryan Cox, Derrick Rodgers, Dan Morgan, Clint Ingram, Orlando Ruff and Rufus Porter that resulted in pure trash. Injuries limited his playing time and his effectiveness when he was on the field. He never seemed at top speed or at an ideal weight throughout the course of his limited action on the field. When on the field, he was participating in earnest with the routine gashings the team suffered on the ground.
The Saints made mini camp available for the fans and media to witness today so there's finally some updates to share. Here's some information I gathered from numerous sources on twitter, most notably
Hey guys. It’s been a while. This is the first article I have written in a couple of weeks due to writer's block, quite frankly. A little bit of a backstory on how I thought of this article topic: I was driving up to Chicago and I was listening to NFL Radio on Sirius XM and they were talking about Tim Tebow and his chances of ever playing in the NFL again. I called in to weigh my opinion on the subject, and they seemed to agree with me so I thought about expanding on what I couldn’t on the radio on here with all of you lovely people.
First of all you should know that "rescue" in the title is in quotes because it is meant sarcastically. So Joe Morgan's publicly known first offense for DWI, though it being a high percentage, might not get as harshly punished as some might fear. The general fear is that when Goodell can single out a Saints player and he will be harsh on him because, well, he is a Saint. I do not know if Goodell is a vindictive man (I think he is), but I do not think he liked his decision to punish Saints players to be overturned.
Apologies for the days off here and there from blogging, I've been on vacation the last week and news hasn't exactly been coming out of the floodgates recently. My trip to Baton Rouge/Ruston/New Orleans, or the trek of Louisiana in one week, was memorable. I did pay my season ticket balance while in NOLA and I'll be back in town for the opener, Falcons @ Saints on September 8th. See you then, New Orleans.
Four players still looking for jobs that played in black and gold last season are out there hoping an NFL will sign them. They are Devery Henderson, Scott Shanle, Elbert Mack and Sedrick Ellis. Shanle and Mack haven't really sniffed much of any interest, and while Mack at 26 was decent enough last year that he may get a look later in the offseason, it's looking more and more likely that Shanle is done. I'm still hoping the Saints will consider bringing Mack back, but I heard rumblings his attitude didn't impress the coaching staff much. With Henderson and Ellis, though, I'm shocked neither has a job.
By now you've heard of the
Before I get rolling with this post I want to once again give a heartfelt shout out to all our troops and quickly remember what makes Memorial Day so special. It's them. So if you've served or are currently serving and you read this blog, please know that while these words can't ever possibly match the level of commitment you've given, it hopefully goes at least a little way in making you feel appreciated. My grandfather, grandmother and father in law all served in the military and they did it so I wouldn't have to... so the sincerity of my "thank you" does really come from the bottom of my heart. Anyway, the Saints need a veteran corner, desperately. Remember when Tracy Porter and Nnamdi Asomugha were lowballed yet pursued in an attempt to bring them on board AFTER the Saints landed Keenan Lewis? Well, nothing's changed since they whiffed on both.
