Saints Nation Podcast: Mini Camp is Worthless and Saints Bizarro Mt. Rushmore

Written by Andrew Juge on .

Andrew Juge and Kevin Held join Ralph to discuss why mini camp is totally useless as far as figuring out anything for the upcoming season. Ralph has a pretty solid theory on why Terron Armstead will start at tackle. Andrew explains why the Saints will need at least one of their young receivers to step up if the offense is to remain elite. Is the pass rush really any better? Andrew thinks Rob Ryan will throw the kitchen sink at teams in the preseason.

The boys then start to assemble the Saints Bizarro Mt. Rushmore and wrap up going through another bracket of Kevin 'Iron Eagle' Held's wrestling intro music.

Saints Nation: David Hawthorne Destined as a Bust Free Agent Signing?

Written by Andrew Juge on .

The first season of David Hawthorne's tenure with the Saints was about as close to a disaster as one could imagine. Performance wise, it was in keeping with some of the medium profile veteran linebacker pick ups of the past like Bryan Cox, Derrick Rodgers, Dan Morgan, Clint Ingram, Orlando Ruff and Rufus Porter that resulted in pure trash. Injuries limited his playing time and his effectiveness when he was on the field. He never seemed at top speed or at an ideal weight throughout the course of his limited action on the field. When on the field, he was participating in earnest with the routine gashings the team suffered on the ground.

Saints Nation: Mini Camp Updates

Written by Andrew Juge on .

The Saints made mini camp available for the fans and media to witness today so there's finally some updates to share. Here's some information I gathered from numerous sources on twitter, most notably Larry Holder of the Times Picayune. Most notable is how good Jimmy Graham looks and everyone was very quick to point that out. Obviously things will change drastically once pads come on and there's live hitting. Jimmy Graham's problems last year seem to come more often when he was wide open than in tight coverage, so we'll see, but he seems to be catching the ball well and back to his old impressive self. Here are other notes in bullets:

Saints Nation: Tim Tebow is a Good Fit for Saints

Written by Andrew Doyle on .

Hey guys. It’s been a while. This is the first article I have written in a couple of weeks due to writer's block, quite frankly. A little bit of a backstory on how I thought of this article topic: I was driving up to Chicago and I was listening to NFL Radio on Sirius XM and they were talking about Tim Tebow and his chances of ever playing in the NFL again. I called in to weigh my opinion on the subject, and they seemed to agree with me so I thought about expanding on what I couldn’t on the radio on here with all of you lovely people.

Saints Nation: NFL Player Comes to Joe Morgan's "Rescue"

Written by Marijn Pessers on .

First of all you should know that "rescue" in the title is in quotes because it is meant sarcastically. So Joe Morgan's publicly known first offense for DWI, though it being a high percentage, might not get as harshly punished as some might fear. The general fear is that when Goodell can single out a Saints player and he will be harsh on him because, well, he is a Saint. I do not know if Goodell is a vindictive man (I think he is), but I do not think he liked his decision to punish Saints players to be overturned.

Now there is good news coming from Chicago.

Saints Nation: Getting Back in the Swing of Things

Written by Andrew Juge on .

Apologies for the days off here and there from blogging, I've been on vacation the last week and news hasn't exactly been coming out of the floodgates recently. My trip to Baton Rouge/Ruston/New Orleans, or the trek of Louisiana in one week, was memorable. I did pay my season ticket balance while in NOLA and I'll be back in town for the opener, Falcons @ Saints on September 8th. See you then, New Orleans.

By the way, I'm surprised the Saints' roster is still stuck at 89 and they've signed no one to replace Greg Romeus... despite the Roman Harper contract reworking. What's up with that? A new guy has got to be signed soon right?

Saints Nation: Several Former Saints Still Looking for Jobs

Written by Andrew Juge on .

Four players still looking for jobs that played in black and gold last season are out there hoping an NFL will sign them. They are Devery Henderson, Scott Shanle, Elbert Mack and Sedrick Ellis. Shanle and Mack haven't really sniffed much of any interest, and while Mack at 26 was decent enough last year that he may get a look later in the offseason, it's looking more and more likely that Shanle is done. I'm still hoping the Saints will consider bringing Mack back, but I heard rumblings his attitude didn't impress the coaching staff much. With Henderson and Ellis, though, I'm shocked neither has a job.

Saints Nation Podcast: Joe Morgan Blackout Drunk Edition

Written by Andrew Juge on .

Andrew, Dave and Kevin join Ralph to break down Joseph Morgan getting sloppy drunk and using his car as a bed. Dave explains his new video feature on CSC and why he sounds like James Earl Jones. Andrew also discusses how Mickey Loomis has quietly put the Saints in good salary cap shape and the boys then begin the bracket to decide which entrance music Kevin 'Iron Eagle ' Held will use in his ring debut. We are in the dog days people there is only 99 days until football. Let's get through this together.

Saints Nation: Will Roger Goodell Try to Circumvent NFL Rules to Suspend Joe Morgan?

Written by Andrew Juge on .

By now you've heard of the horribly irresponsible mistake made by Joe Morgan. The Saints' deep threat and heavy favorite to land the #3 receiver job allegedly registed a 0.218 blood alcohol content, which is pretty high. This wasn't a case of a guy having a few beers and getting behind the wheel. This is ten beers plus. He was hammered and this is very disappointing to see from many angles. Not harping on the fact that he has a kid and he put people's lives in serious danger, which is clearly the biggest crime in all of this, this also causes serious harm to Morgan's chances of making the team. You know Sean Payton will not stand for this type of behavior. And while Morgan is the overwhelming favorite to be the third receiver, his roster spot isn't as secure as most primary backups because he's got some stiff competition from Nick Toon and Kenny Stills, among others, assuming the Saints don't bring in anyone else. This is just so unbelievably stupid on his part. But this brings me to the question: does Roger Goodell take this opportunity to drop the hammer on a Saints' player? You know he's dying to.

Saints Nation: The Saints Need a Veteran Cornerback in the Mix ASAP

Written by Andrew Juge on .

Before I get rolling with this post I want to once again give a heartfelt shout out to all our troops and quickly remember what makes Memorial Day so special. It's them. So if you've served or are currently serving and you read this blog, please know that while these words can't ever possibly match the level of commitment you've given, it hopefully goes at least a little way in making you feel appreciated. My grandfather, grandmother and father in law all served in the military and they did it so I wouldn't have to... so the sincerity of my "thank you" does really come from the bottom of my heart. Anyway, the Saints need a veteran corner, desperately. Remember when Tracy Porter and Nnamdi Asomugha were lowballed yet pursued in an attempt to bring them on board AFTER the Saints landed Keenan Lewis? Well, nothing's changed since they whiffed on both.
